Congratulations to the Dubbo Show Society for once again putting on a magnificent show over the weekend. It was certainly helped by the fact that the weather was beautiful and the crowds reflected the hard work put in by the Show Society. It is also great to see the wide expanses of the Dubbo Showground filled with exhibitions and rides…and people.

This morning I attended the latest Chamber of Commerce CEO Series. This has been running all year and is a fantastic series. It was borne out of collaboration among Council; Dubbo Chamber of Commerce; Taronga Western Plains Zoo and sponsored by QantasLink. This morning we heard from Anthony Mellowes from SCA Property Group. Keep an eye out for future speakers in this unique series.

Congratulations to Natalie and Brad Myers who last week opened the Veldt Restaurant (in the Quest building). This couple has moved from Sydney to invest in regional Australia and I wish them all the best. I am sure Dubbo will appreciate an additional option in the restaurant choices.

Many people would be aware that Senator Fiona Nash, hosted by Mark Coulton MP, was in Dubbo this week convening a meeting to discuss the ICE pandemic gripping Australia. It was well-attended by many people dealing with drug and alcohol issues every day and I believe the Senator would have walked away with additional ideas on how to combat drugs. The information that I see leads me to believe we don’t have an ICE problem per se. I believe we have an ongoing drug problem and it just so happens that ICE is the current flavour. It seemed that not so long ago ecstasy was the problem drug and it won’t be long before another drug replaces ICE. It is unpopular to mention it but I also believe that alcohol is a major issue in our society and creates more problems than ICE. I look forward to seeing what the Federal Government Taskforce will recommend to help solve the current drug problem.

Next week keep an ear out for me on the Tony Delroy Show on the Tuesday night and then I will appear on The Perrett Report on SKY NEWS Business on Wednesday night where I will have the opportunity to discuss Dubbo’s economy with Janine Perrett.
