Keep an eye out at the end of next week for His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove who will be visiting Dubbo for three days. I have been working with his office for the last five weeks to build a full itinerary for the Governor General during his short stay in Dubbo. He will be busy over his time in Dubbo but is keen to see as much of Dubbo as possible. I am sure he will be impressed by what he sees.
One thing that the Governor General won’t see while in Dubbo is the 3642 Steam Locomotive that was in Dubbo last weekend. I had the pleasure of taking a ride on the train – along with 2,500 people who took advantage of this rare opportunity over the weekend – and it was great to experience a train trip from a bygone era. Most of the way along the journey from Dubbo to Wongarbon I witnessed people alongside the train tracks taking photos or videos of this moving museum. Despite the photo that was published in the Liberal yesterday, they didn’t actually let me drive the train – I only had the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat!
The Gulambula Bridge was opened last week and this is a piece of infrastructure that has been in the planning for ten years. This $1.76 million bridge makes the connection along Old Mendooran Road between the Golden Highway and Mendooran Road much safer and faster and further demonstrates Council’s commitment to our rural residents.

The Dubbo MTB Club started their massive Super Series competition on Sunday with a record club race line-up of 30 riders. Not surprisingly, the legendary Paul Schroder took out the first event outright but the handicapper is known to be particularly harsh so it gives all riders a chance. Visit the Dubbo Mountain Bike Club Facebook Page for more details.
The Tour de OROC is only 12 logos short of establishing another Guinness World Record. Please contact David Hayes if you want your logo to be part of a World Record.
