Phil Stack to play at Lifeline fundraising dinner in Dubbo
Lifeline fundraising dinner to be held in Dubbo on 12 July will feature Phil Stack in a jazz duo.
The support for the Lifeline fundraiser is quickly growing. After already announcing Alan Jones AO is donating his time to speak at the event, the event gained more publicity with the announcement that renowned Australian jazz and rock musician, Phil Stack, will be performing at the event in a jazz duo with Carl Dewhurst. Phil is also donating his time to the event in support of Lifeline.
Mr Stack has previously won first place in the National Jazz Awards at the Melbourne Jazz Festival and is the regular double bass player for jazz musician, James Morrison. He is also well known as the founding mainstay bass guitarist of one of Australia’s finest live acts, the multi-platinum band Thirsty Merc, a group that was formed in 2002 and has been nominated seven times for APRA and ARIA music awards. With hits such as ’20 Good Reasons’, ‘Someday, Someday’ and ‘In the Summertime’ which is the TV Show Bondi Rescue’s theme song, there are not many people in this nation not familiar with Mr Stack’s work.
Being a product of Dubbo made the decision even easier for Mr Stack, who said, “I’m honoured to be asked to be a part of the Lifeline Fundraiser. This is such a worthy cause and I’m only too happy to be able to help in a small way.”
Australia faces an ongoing issue with mental health and lack of government provided facilities. Australia is currently at a 10-year high with suicides sitting at 12.6 deaths per 100,000 people per year. For every suicide, there are 32 attempts at suicide. As many people in this region would know, the further west you travel from Sydney, the higher the rates of both domestic violence and suicide.
Chairman of the organising committee, Mathew Dickerson, noted it was a long shot when one of the committee members suggested contacting Mr Stack to see if he could play at the event. “Phil’s father was a teacher from my school days so I contacted him to make contact with Phil. The planets aligned and Phil was not touring and agreed very quickly to be a part of the event. Our committee is very grateful to Phil for donating his time to this wonderful event,” said Mr Dickerson.
Tickets are now on sale for the event online through 123Tix or available from axxis in Dubbo Square. The event will be held at the Rhino Lodge on Friday 12 July.
